What Do You Feed Your Pets !?!?!

Need Help Finding the Right Products for Your FurBabies?!?

Associated GNLD NeoLife Products and Whole Foods for Their Special Diet:

MAIN DIET

If you want to feed only a natural diet and stay away from commercial pet food, you must make sure your pet is getting all the nutrients necessary for vibrant health.  The following diet is a complete diet but be sure to supplement with a well-rounded vitamin supplement like GNLD's Pet-Pals for complete insurance that they are getting all the nutrients that they need:

  • RAW EGG YOLK: -- one or more daily.  Be sure you use egg yolks from chickens fed free range -- it will say so on the box.  I highly recommend one egg daily to all dogs.  Give 7 or more raw egg yolks and nothing else is necessary on days you are very busy.

  • LIVER: -- give 2-3 pieces 3 times a week, or any other meats; heart, kidney or tripe.  Dogs must have organ meat weekly.  Lack of taurine will cause dogs to seizure. Taurine is an amino acid abundant in hearts.

  • CHICKEN: -- it is safe and very inexpensive.  Salmonella and campylobacter jejuni are of no consequence to a healthy dog.  Be sure to dispose of the bones where the dogs cannot get to them.  All bones are NOT good for dogs.  Avoid chicken bones and rib bones as they splinter.  Any bones that splinter should be avoided.  Do not give bones that can be chewed down small enough to swallow whole.  Bones have been known to block the intestinal canal and kill a dog, particularly if they become lodged side-ways.  Chicken bones and splintery bones will puncture their intestines and stomach walls and you will either lose your dog or you will have a HUGE vet bill if you are lucky enough to catch it in time.  My dogs NEVER get bones to eat or chew on.  I had a neighbor give my dog a bone and she died four days later.  It was lodged in her intestine.

  • RAW or COOKED VEGETABLES (cooked vegetables only as a filler): -- cooked potatoes (great food for dogs) -- raw carrots, or broccoli stems, or any vegetables you like or are in season like cauliflower, brussel sprouts, avocados, pumpkin, squash, peas, beans, etc.  Crush raw vegetables in your Cuisinart or blender -- a good way is pulp from your juicer -- you drink the juice -- mix pulp in dog's food.  Fruits are excellent, apples, pears etc, it's best to steam vegetables.  Then crunch and feed to dog.  Raw, cooked or steamed vegetables are all ok!  Grapes are not good for dogs so do not feed them grapes.  Onions and garlic cloves should NOT be fed to your dog unless just used as a powdered sprinkle to taste.

  • SARDINES (IN SOY or OLIVE OIL): -- Give one can once or twice weekly.  Dogs love it -- it's very, very good for your dog and a nice change now and then.

Vitamin Supplements

(The following products, except for the Pet-Pals vitamins, are formulated for humans but can be given in the follow doses for Large or Giant dogs, pups and adults.
Minis, Toys and Standards get half these dosages.)

I know vitamin and mineral supplements are not cheap -- but if you feed your dog an optimum diet and the following supplements he will have a much better chance to avoid getting sick.  These supplements add up to a little over $1.00 per day or so = $365 or so a year.  One emergency call at the vets will cost you $200 - $300, so it makes far more sense to prevent disease than to wait for it to happen.  You can also compare this cost per day to the cost per day of feeding your pet commercial foods which are NOT cheap and do not contain all the nutrients your pet needs.

  • 4  GNLD Pet-Pals Pet Vitamins -- 4 tablets daily for a Giant or Large breed -- 2 daily for a Mini or Toy.  These are a multi-vitamin which includes lots of B Complex -- so you do not need to give Brewer's Yeast.  The dogs love them -- highly recommended for overall health and good coats.  At four tablets daily, one bottle will last aproximately 1 1/2 months.  If there is only one thing you want to spend your money on, get the Pet-Pals and use the other suggestions in this article only for special needs.  For example, calcium -- the Pet-Pals do not contain calcium -- or if your pet is pregnant or if you have a puppy that is weak, you need to supplement according to their need from the products listed here.  The Pet-Pals are well-rounded and offer complete nutrition for the average fur baby, but sometimes you might have a pet that has special needs.  If that is the case, then read on and choose from the following products.

  • 2  GNLD All-C 200 mg tablet -- equivilant to 6 whole oranges (all natural).

Most dogs (and kids) love the GNLD All-C chewable Vitamin C.  GNLD All-C tablets, formulated for people who do not like to swallow tablets, are chewable and taste great!  Most dogs and cats love them!  Each tablet is like eating 6 whole oranges at once.  They are not made from chemicals, but from a natural food source -- just concentrated produce with water removed.  You and your dog can absorb them 100%.  It's not necessary to give thousands of milligrams of Vitamin C daily unless your dog is sick.  We recommend one tablet daily while growing, two tablets daily for adults.  Vitamin C is important to the collagen to prevent hip dysplasia, to boost your dogs immune system and of course is an important antioxident to prevent cancer.  A large bottle of 250 tablets will last approximately 4 to 8 months depending on how you feed them.

  • 1  GNLD Acidophilus Capsule -- daily to all pups to keep the intestinal flora in good health.  Formulated for humans, Acidophilus Plus works just as well for dogs and cats to help in avoiding diarrhea.  If your puppies should develop diarrhea, you can give them one capsule and it will eliminate the problem within the day.  Even puppies eight weeks old can take these.  I have not tried to give it to younger ones so I cannot say but I would wait until they are at least eight weeks old.

  • 1  GNLD Tre-en-en (Omega 3 essential oils needed daily) -- give instead of flaxseed oil.

  • 1  GNLD Vitamin E Plus -- Best antioxidant, this vitamin is extremely important for your dog and yourself.  It is the only totally natural vitamin E available in the U.S.A. that contains all eight tocopherols and tocotrienols so it is expensive but worth every penny.

Your dog needs one capsule of Vitamin E Plus daily.  If you get the larger bottle at the member/distributor price you will be paying only a few cents daily for the vitamin E capsule.  (Ask us about how you can get the member/distributor status.)  This may be one of the best insurances you will ever get to prevent your dog from getting cancer or heart problems.  Vitamin E can also be used to help with altitude sickness in animals as well as humans and our all natural form will work within the hour.  Vitamin E is considered one of the very best antioxidents available.  It helps heal inside injuries like surgery.  Great for coat and energy, Vitamin E is my own life saver -- I've taken it religiously for 25 years every single day.  GNLD Neolife makes their's from pure wheat germ oil -- the very, very best and original source of natural Vitamin E.  Don't compromise and buy imitation, it's not worth it.

  • 2  Calcium-Magnesium Tablets (GNLD Cal-Mag) -- Very important to support growth on a fast growing dog, also to balance his diet.  We recommend three tablets daily for a Giant or Large breed -- one tablet for a Mini or Toy.  Discontinue when adult if you give him Multi-Minerals With Chelates -- (see next item).  One bottle will last approximately 1 1/2 months.

Since you do not feed bone, give calcium supplementation.

  • GNLD Multi-Minerals with Chelates -- Give your growing Giant or Large breed three tablets daily -- your Mini or Toy one daily.  Continue giving him these daily for the rest of his life.  These tablets also have calcium in them.  Minerals are often overlooked in our diets as our soil is so drained and over used and polluted.  These tablets include copper which helps keep your dog's coat color and stops it from premature graying.  One bottle will last 1 1/2 months.

  • 2 GNLD Alfalfa Plus Fiber -- Give daily.  It's what horses and elephants live on and you know how big and strong they get.  Dogs have a desire to eat grass as you probably have noticed.  Give them alfalfa tablets to stop this urge.  Again, minerals are important for just about all your dogs organs, keeping his heart, lungs, blood, thyroid, sex organs etc. in good shape.  We suggest three tablets daily for a Giant or Large breed, one bottle is good for three months.

We urge you to give the supplements daily.  For older dogs who have been on commercial food we strongly suggest you give 2 GNLD Enzymes daily before meals.

A breeder once asked me about folic acid since she feels it is important particularly while breeding.  They get the folic acid from the leafy vegetables (spinach, lettuces, asparagus, kidney beans, etc.), other beans, peas and calves' liver which are rich in folic acid.  Humans only require 0.4 mg daily as a minimum so dogs require less than that.  My dogs LOVE salad.  They also eat bananas, oranges, apples, watermelon, cantelope, etc., to help aid digestion.

Substitute 3 - 4 raw egg yolks on those days meat is not available.  Be sure your dog gets red meat & organ meats at least 3 times weekly as long as you have not salted them or sauted them in a salty sauce.  Any leftovers from your table are excellent as long as you watch the salt and sugar.  Both salt and sugar are very bad for dogs.

KEEP IN MIND THAT WHAT YOU WANT TO AVOID IS PROCESSED FOOD ALSO.  ANYTHING THAT HAS BEEN HEATED EVEN A MINUTE IN THE MICROWAVE HAS LOST ITS ENZYMES.

Dogs should eat only meat, vegetables & fruits.  Avoid all grains -- most dogs become allergic to them.  Dogs are carnivores with a powerful digestive system.

Since we have followed this diet our pups and adults NEVER have any health problems, including hip dysplasia, skin rashes, allergies etc.  Our 13 - 14 year olds act and look as healthy as the 2 year olds.

Feed all pups all they want to eat 3 times daily.  If you must be gone all day, fix up meat, vegetables, or leftovers a.m. and p.m.  Always leave fresh water.  Clean, distilled water or electrolyzed water is best.

I know vitamin and mineral supplements are not cheap -- but if you feed your dog an optimum diet and the above supplements he will have a much better chance to avoid getting sick.  These supplements add up to a little over $1.00 per day = $365 or so a year.  One emergency call at the vets will cost you $200 - $300, so it makes far more sense to prevent disease than to wait for it to happen.

I promise you'll see improvement in all areas -- bigger litters, no swimming syndrome in new born pups -- longer life span -- no stiffness and arthritis in young or old dogs -- shinier, healthier coats etc.  You'll find it is easy and fun to feed and you will soon appreciate why it is so important for your best friend to eat live food full of enzymes and not just processed food.

FAST YOUR DOG ONE DAY WEEKLY

It is very healthy to fast your dog one day a week, after he is one year old.

Any of the above foods are excellent for your dog.  Vary his diet so it's not the same every day.  Fasting your dog one day a week is good for him.

Remember, the best way to feed is not to mix the food groups or protein sources.  Best is to feed only chicken one meal or only hamburger & organ meats one meal or only vegetables for one meal with an egg yolk to make it tastier.  Any Giant under 1 year should get all he wants to eat 2x daily while still growing.  Adjust amount of food to your dog's activity level; do not let him get fat.  Dogs should eat a minimum of 75% meat, 25% vegetables and/or fruits (as a filler, boiled potatoes are fine) -- easy to remember.

If you like to have some dry dog food available, you can offer your dog one cup in a separate dish daily, BUT only as a filler.  Use a first class dog food.

My own dogs get processed dry food only for snacking on.  Only feed if you are gone all day and cannot offer fresh food.  Check that the dog food does not contain grains of any kind, soy or dairy products (These are trigger foods for seizures in sensitive dogs, so avoid all dry food if possible).

About Vitamin C

As you probably know by now, I'm a great believer in nutrition, "YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT".   I feel strongly that a good natural diet will prevent many health problems later in your dog's life, e.g.; skin problems, cancer, arthritis, and most important HIP DYSPLASIA.

Hip dysplasia is actually a form of arthritis of the hip bones, which is often discovered as loose joints shown in an X-ray.

I have finally come to the conclusion that HIP DYSPLASIA is a result of poor nutrition and lack of many vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C.  Almost all dogs in the US are raised on commercial dog food with no NATURAL VITAMIN C.  True, the manufacturers add ascorbic acid, but this chemical form of Vitamin C just isn't good enough.  Your dog MUST get Vitamin C in his diet on a daily basis from a natural source, like fresh vegetables or raw milk or Vitamin C made from a VEGETABLE SOURCE. To keep his immune system in good shape as well as the collagen.

For many years I have recommended Vitamin C to puppy buyers and they say they religiously give a big dose of Vitamin C daily, and still some dogs get Hip dysplasia.  I had no explanation for this until I learned from a top board certified nutritionist in the USA, Dr. Don Lawson, that 80% of the chemical form of ascorbic acid ingested is flushed through the kidneys within two hours of taking it.  In other words, the body cannot utilize chemical Vitamin C properly.  Don't waste your money on the cheap Vitamin C products on the market.  Be sure to only use GNLD NeoLife Vitamin C.   However, if your dog is fed a natural diet, with fresh vegetables DAILY, some raw grated carrots and some cooked vegetables like potatoes, he can utilize the Vitamin C present and build proper COLLAGEN.

What is COLLAGEN?  Collagen is the substance that sticks your calcium together and also holds your body together.  Have you ever mixed cement?  Calcium is like the powdered cement and collagen is like the moisture that holds the cement together.  Without collagen you and your dog would fall apart.  COLLAGEN NEEDS VITAMIN C TO FUNCTION.  A severe Vitamin C deficiency can cause scurvy, a disease which has killed many sailors in the past.  Typical signs of scurvy are loss of teeth and joints becoming loose just like in hip dysplasia.  To prevent scurvy, which is a very painful deficiency, just like severe hip dysplasia, sailors were told to eat lemons or limes daily to prevent the Vitamin C deficiency.  Another rich source of collagen is the white part of the orange peel so don't throw that away!  The dogs love it and it is good for them.  It is also present in limes, lemons, grapefruit, etc. -- any fruit that has the white part next to the rind.

Dogs manufacture some Vitamin C themselves, but obviously some do not manufacture enough.  Like Dr. Earl, D.V.M., I strongly believe that a HIGH REQUIREMENT for Vitamin C may be inherited, rather than the disorder itself.  This should come as no surprise, as dogs are not allowed to breed by natural selection, but rather at the whim of the breeder.

Since I am now aware that Vitamin C is the important factor in building collagen, I also feel this explains the many knee injures you see in large breeds today -- after all, there is a lot of collagen in your kneecap.

Some dogs, of course, do not clear OFA on the X-ray.  In every case, these dogs had some form of virus when they were pups and were given antibiotics for an extended period of time.  I am convinced that the antibiotics interfered with the Vitamin C absorption.  Had I known what I know today, I could have doubled the Vitamin C dose for these particular dogs, while they were on antibiotics.  If you understand how damaging free radicals are and how lots more are released when taking antibiotics, you'll understand why you should increase Vitamin C and also give Vitamin E Plus.

So to be on the safe side, I recommend that every puppy buyer give natural food with some kind of vegetables daily.  Also, I recommend that you give your pup at least one Vitamin C tablet in the morning and one tablet in the evening daily, of course only Vitamin C made from a VEGETABLE SOURCE, like that made by GNLD NeoLife.  IF IT DOES NOT SAY THIS on the bottle, don't buy it.  The only company that we know of that makes natural Vitamin C is the ROCHE COMPANY in SWITZERLAND, a world renowned company.  In the USA, GNLD Neo-Life imports their Vitamin C from the Roche Company.

GNLD NeoLife ALL-C Vitamin Tablets, made from vegetable sources, is NOT available in stores.  I have it available to my buyers since I am a distributor for GNLD Neo-Life.  All you need to do is call me and I will UPS a bottle to you immediately.

Every time some one calls me and tells me about a dog they had for 14 years or more, I ask them what they fed their dog.  It is always table scraps, apples, carrots, broccoli stems -- all convincing me they got a diet rich in NATURAL VITAMIN C.  Also ranch and farm dogs are seldom known to get hip dysplasia.  As you know, dogs will eat horse and cow manure with gusto.  I'm convinced they know they need the digested grass or alfalfa, probably a very high source of natural C.

I know of an older gentleman who used to be the kennel manager for one of the largest German Shephard kennels in the US, in the 30's and 40's.  He said that back then no one had ever heard about hip dysplasia.  He never knew of any shepard that was crippled.  Then, in 1950, a few cases were recorded and it was said it was typical for German Shepards, because of their long body and extreme angulation.  In the 1960's - 1970's it became so common in Shepards that almost everyone worried about it.  Even worse, it later started appearing in many other breeds.   So now, one is told, it is typical for all large breeds because they grow so fast!!  Then I remember hearing that almost any breed could get it.  Almost every single breed!

It has been documented, by going back into the early 1900's that no dogs had hip dysplasia during this time or before, a quote I read in the book "HOW TO KEEP YOUR DOG HEALTHY THE NATURAL WAY", by Pat Lazarus.  Yet today it is rampant.  I ask myself, "What have all these breeds in common except hip dysplasia?"

Commercial dog food is definitely one answer.  Most every breeder and dog owner in countries like the U.S.A. and Europe feed almost exclusively commercial dog food, as it is so convenient.  Commercial dog food, by it's very nature, has no natural live VITAMIN C available.  Food has to be fresh to provide natural Vitamin C, like raw carrots and apples.

This theory of VITAMIN C being at the heart of the HIP DYSPLASIA epidemic is not new.  Many veterinarians have written articles about their great success with natural foods and how they have completely eliminated hip dysplasia in their clients' dogs.  Yet, few dog owners are aware of how easily they could prevent this unnecessary painful problem.

I see a great increase in knee cap injuries in all large breeds, and I strongly feel this is also a weak collagen problem stemming from a lack of natural Vitamin C.

My personal opinion is that hip dysplasia is not a genetic factor.  In fact, the well know Wendell O. Bellfield, D.V.M. says, "canine hip dysplasia is a NUTRITIONAL and BIOCHEMICAL imbalance."  He continues to say "the concept that the key to the disease lies in genetics has failed miserable.  The "experts" have failed to prove the existence of a gene that causes hip dysplasia; they have also failed to determine the action of the alleged gene."  It is possible that some lines are more predisposed to arthritis, but if fed correctly with protein and raw vegetables, you will never see the manifestation of clinical hip dysplasia.

The best ratio is 60% meat and 40% raw vegetables.  Avoid all carbohydrates like grains, this is not a natural food for dogs and is often hard to digest.

However, for those of you who did not know how to prevent it, and now your dog has developed lameness that your veterinarian diagnosed as hip dysplasia, I have very good news.

Dr. Terry Durkes D.V.M., from Marion, Indiana, and other veterinarians around the country, have developed a technique using a form of acupuncture, actually a gold bead implant, with which they can eliminate the dogs pain 100% in one visit.  It also stops the progress of the arthritis!  It's an incredible technique, which takes one veterinary visit and no surgery.  Also available now is GNLD Neo-Life's Full Motion with glucosamine for the joints, and a great lubricant,Salmon Oil Plus, which truly helps any arthritis pain.  Start your dysplastic dog on them immediately, as well as GNLD Vitamin C and Vitamin E Plus.

Anyone who has ever considered surgery for hip dysplasia should look at this procedure first.  It's quite incredible.  Something one has to see to believe.  By the way, I know of several severely crippled dogs who became completely symptom free when switched to a natural diet with natural supplements.

I predict that in 20 years these theories will be commonly accepted worldwide.  For now, there are still many people who believe genetics is at the heart of the problem, only because that's what they have been told for so long.  I pray these people will give VITAMIN C in a natural form a chance to work for their dog, as well as a natural, whole food diet.
